How it Works: The Journey to Unlocking Your Story

Navigating the world of audio production should be as exciting as the story itself. Here is our step-by-step process for taking your project from the page to the ear.

1. The Consultation & Sample

Every great project starts with a conversation. We’ll discuss your vision, tone, and character requirements. We’ll provide a custom 5-minute sample of your script to ensure the voice and pacing perfectly match the "heartbeat" of your book.

2. Character & Tone Prep

Once we’re a go, we will dive deep into the manuscript together. We can develop a "Cast of Voices" for your characters (if desired) and map out the emotional arc of the narrative. This is where the prep work happens to ensure consistency from Chapter 1 to the end.

3. Into the Chambers (Recording)

This is where the magic happens. One of us, or both, will record your project in our professional-grade studio, focusing on a passionate, immersive performance. As the producers, we monitor every take for technical clarity and emotional resonance.

4. Precision Editing & Mastering

We don't just "read and send." We meticulously edit the audio to remove distractions, master the levels to industry standards (ACX/Audible), and ensure the final files are punchy, clear, and retail-ready.

5. Review & Ready

You’ll receive your high-quality audio files for review. We offer a round of revisions to ensure every character name and technical detail is exactly how you envisioned it. Once you’re 100% happy, your story is ready to be unlocked by listeners everywhere!

Character & Voice Over Work

We don’t just read lines; We build worlds.

We can bring a range of emotions and tones to your words, working with you throughout to ensure we are capturing the correct intent for your character/s and the story line. Danielle provides a female narrative with a range of tones from a bubbly, excited sidekick to a deep, femme-fatal villain. Richard provides a male narrative with a deep, bass-filled tone. Ideal for a Main Male Character who is strong, heroic or villainous to a cinematic storytelling that fills the room.

As Audiobook Narrators, we can engage children in magical stories, give calm, soothing guidance for well-being enthusiasts and capture the thrill of a fantasy-epic adventure.

We both have a skilled narrative flow that captures well-timed vocal pacing, keeping listeners engaged from the prologue to the credits.

Our skills come from a natural ability to copy and echo other voices, a heart that has always been close to performance arts (singing & acting), a passion for creating stories and character voices that people fall in love with and a natural technical ability to analyse and pay keen attention to detail.

We are self taught but that does not diminish the quality and expertise you will receive.

The Story Chambers Studio

A great story deserves a professional canvas. We utilize a dedicated, acoustically treated environment to ensure your audio is captured with absolute clarity and zero distractions.

Microphone: Rode NT-USB

A studio grade condenser mic known for capturing the natural warmth and nuance of the human voice.

DAW (Digital Audio Workstation):

'Audacity', optimized for high-fidelity voice-over recording and surgical editing.

Acoustic Environment:

Recorded in a small, treated space to eliminate echo and ambient noise.

Delivery Standards:

All files are mastered to ACX/Audible standards, including:

Constant Bit Rate of 192kbps or higher.
Between -23dB and -18dB RMS loudness levels.
No more then -3dB peak levels and a -60dB maximum noise floor.
Clean, punchy audio with all the breaths, clicks, and background noise removed.
Available in .MP3 or .WAV formats.

By combining the warmth of Rode NT-USB with my post-production workflow, we ensure your audiobook arrives 'Retail-Ready' - meeting all technical requirements for global distribution platforms the moment you receive them.

How long does it take to produce an audiobook?

We currently do not have specific data for this but generally, for every one hour of finished audio, it takes about ten hours of work (including recording, editing, and mastering). For a 100 page book, you can typically expect a 4 week turnaround from the start of recording to the final delivery.

We cannot provide a definitive deadline as we are still growing, but we will estimate and work with you through the process so you will always know what pace we are going at.

How much does it cost to record at The Story Chambers?

The cost of recording at The Story Chambers varies depending on the services required and the duration of the project.

For audiobook narration we would be currently looking at £100 - £200 Per Finished Hour. We are also open to Royalty Shares via ACX.

How do we get started?

The best way is to send me a sample of your script! Let me know what you are looking for and how you want the voice/s to sound. We offer a free demo sample of your specific work so you can hear exactly how we will "Unlock Your Story" before you commit to a full project.

Do you offer revisions?

We want you to love your story!

We offer one round of revision (typically the first 10% of the finished product) for tone or pacing at no extra charge. Any "pickups" (corrections for mispronunciations or text errors) are welcomed and handled immediately to ensure the final product is flawless!

Can you do different character voices?

Absolutely! We can provide voice acting techniques to suit the characters personality and the emotional tone of the narrative. Bringing your written words to the listeners ears with immersive impact. Our aim is to pull the listener in so much that their mind gets lost in the story and emotion.

During our consultation, we’ll discuss the personality and "vibe" of your characters. We aim to create distinct vocal profiles so your listeners can easily tell who is speaking and the experience will feel more compelling.
